Post Secondary Education
LA CAUSA is committed to exposing our participants to post-secondary education and career opportunities. We strongly believe that access to a higher education can transform the lives of our youth. LA CAUSA youth has access to a college counselor that guides the students through the various options available for a higher education after obtaining a high school diploma. Youth receive continuous support with college, FAFSA, DREAM Act, and scholarship applications. Furthermore, youth also receive advising with enrolling in college courses, and they are supported with the transition.
College Field Trips
LA CAUSA organizes trips to post-secondary institutions such as UC Irvine, Cal State Los Angeles, Occidental College, and Los Angeles Trade Tech. Participants receive exposure to careers in science, technology, engineering, art and math (STEAM) and construction-related fields, like architecture. They also experience an intense 1-week introduction to college at UCLA along with other college activities throughout the year.
ELAC Dual Enrollment
Students at LA CAUSA have the opportunity to take college courses provided by East Los Angeles Community College free of charge, both at LA CAUSA and at ELAC's campus.
At LA CAUSA we offer a Senior Portfolio curriculum, which every student is required to complete. This class is created to help students build a portfolio, which they can present to higher education institutions and employers once they have completed their time at LA CAUSA. This curriculum covers resume and cover letter writing. Students also receive support with internships and job placements.
LA CAUSA is committed to exposing our participants to post-secondary career opportunities. We strongly believe that having access to these resources results in the self-sufficiency of our participants. LA CAUSA youth has access to paid internship opportunities with local non-profits and corporations, resume/cover letter workshops, mock interviews, and other resources provided by the American Job Centers of California (AJCC), Workforce Development Innovation & Opportunity Act (WIOA), and the South Bay Workforce Investment Act Board (SBWIB).
