We offer individualized, group, and culturally relevant instruction for high school diploma completion and GED preparation program that utilizes innovative teaching techniques and advanced computer technology to engage students. An emphasis of our educational component is to nurture a critique of oppressive relations of power and how they impact our participants’ lives.

LA CAUSA YouthBuild utilizes construction skills development as a means to offer youth concrete skills that lend themselves to addressing the deplorable housing conditions in their community while granting them with a valuable skill set that can help young adults earn a living wage. We provide vocational education classroom construction skills training for: Tool identification and usage, Safety, Blueprint reading, Design, Window installation, Door hanging, Basic estimating computer software training, etc. Furthermore we offer hands-on training at construction sites for all phases of construction from framing to finish carpentry, basic plumbing and electrical, roofing, tile setting, etc.

Our comprehensive Youth development strategy assigns each participant a Program Manager that supports the development of self-discipline, responsibility, entitlement, empowerment and commitment. We support and assist with personal development of life skills through the creation of individualized action plans carried out in private monthly meetings. Weekly training is provided that emphasize the development of Leadership skills foster a Critical knowledge-base of challenging issues faced by the community such as racism, sexism, the Prison Industrial Complex, globalization, child care, distressed housing conditions, and lack of access to appropriate health care. In sum, by providing an encouraging and supportive community through the coaching of youth, Program Managers are committed to helping participants become actively engaged in the formation of self determined goals and creating consequential activities to address community needs.
